Build failing on Arch Linux

Hi! Today i wanted to try out APRS on a linux machine and read that you needed this software so i tried installing direwolf from the AUR. when it tried to compile, i got the following error:

CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:1 (cmake_minimum_required):
  Compatibility with CMake < 3.5 has been removed from CMake.

  Update the VERSION argument <min> value.  Or, use the <min>...<max> syntax
  to tell CMake that the project requires at least <min> but has been updated
  to work with policies introduced by <max> or earlier.

  Or, add -DCMAKE_POLICY_VERSION_MINIMUM=3.5 to try configuring anyway.

looking at comments on the AUR, it seems others are having the same issue https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/direwolf

This is a problem with the package version in the AUR. The issue should be reported to the AUR package maintainer, so that they can then update the package. The CMake version was updated to 3.5 in Direwolf in March 2024. Instead of trying to use the old AUR package, you should get the source from the dev branch of Direwolf in GitHub, and build from that.

In the originally cited Arch ticket ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/direwolf ), a patch has been offered that solves the issue. Please note that Direwolf 1.7 is rather old these days and I would recommend to manually compile up version 1.8 from the DEV branch.
