When packaging this on Linux, we build into a subdirectory using $DESTDIR. Other than what's in install-conf, which can be skipped during building a package, this is the last piece that didn't obey $DESTDIR.

Cancelling this pull request for now - I've looked further into the makefile, and it's not using DESTDIR as expected. I'll do another later that makes it work as it should.

Please look at the "dev" branch. The "master" branch is the most recent stable release which is now about a year old. Major changes have been made in the "dev" branch. This will be merged into "master" within the next few months to make release 1.6.
