Cancelling this pull request for now - I've looked further into the makefile, and it's not using DESTDIR as expected. I'll do another later that makes it work as it should. |

Please look at the "dev" branch. The "master" branch is the most recent stable release which is now about a year old. Major changes have been made in the "dev" branch. This will be merged into "master" within the next few months to make release 1.6. |

When packaging this on Linux, we build into a subdirectory using $DESTDIR. Other than what's in install-conf, which can be skipped during building a package, this is the last piece that didn't obey $DESTDIR.
